Introduction to Agility

This course introduces the dog and handler to both the agility equipment and what they want to call each obstacle. Since safety and motivation are primary concerns at this level, each dog moves at his own pace until confidence is gained. For both beginners to the sport and seasoned competitors, this is the foundation course for agility. This course is appropriate for both puppies and adult dogs.

Casey

Beginners/ Advanced Beginners
These two courses provide further training to increase the levels of confidence for the dog on the agility equipment until full heights are achieved. Simple sequencing of obstacles is introduced as well as continued work on accurate performance and building speed. This course further strengthens the foundation of good communication and teamwork between dog and handler with an emphasis on having fun!

Competition
This course is designed for those dogs and handlers about ready to compete as well as those already competing. Course sequences are designed to create challenges for you and your dog to increase skills at the advanced level so that you can be successful in the upper levels of competition (Elite/Excellent/Masters). Practices will include games and game strategies such as Gamblers, Jumpers and Snooker.

DROP-INS are welcome at the Intermediate and Competition levels as space allows.

Handling Skills/Intermediate
Now that you're hooked on agility - here comes the real fun! This course is the one in which many dogs and handlers stay for several sessions since there are so many handling skills to learn!

The intent is to build that large repertoire of skills needed for both dog and handler to begin longer and more complicated sequences of obstacles. Handlers will work on further building clear communication with their dog through verbal and body language. Examples of skills taught are: distance work; changes of side (crossing skills); obstacle discrimination; further work on angled entrances; weave pole speed and entrances; control and directional commands.

For those competition minded handlers, this course is an excellent practice forum to prepare for competition. For those who just want to have fun, this course will further strengthen your communication and bond with your dog.
